This Is So Huge, this Love!
Wow! Did you ever try to pick up a huge dog and put him in the back of your car only find out he’s too big and way too heavy? Did you ever try to stuff a whole banana in your mouth when you were little only to find out it was just too big and your mouth too small? Well, maybe you haven’t but I have! That’s how I feel taking a subject as huge as Love and trying to condense it into a little blog post!
The Bible says that God is Love, and because He is, love is huge and we need it more than anything. Countless songs and poems and books have been written about it. Hearts have been healed by it and broken by a lack of it. I Corinthians 13:13 says, “Now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Personally, I have felt the warmth and healing that has taken place in my own heart because of love. I have also felt the searing pain of rejection inside when love was no longer flowing to me by those I thought loved me. I’ve seen my mother live a nightmare when my dad left.
What is this powerful thing we call love?
A year ago, I was looking for a good book. I love reading books by Dr. John Townsend. I found one of his books called, Loving People: How to Love and Be Loved. I can say with all honesty this book changed my life. I don’t read the same books over and over, but this one has been read already a couple times by me. His very simple definition of love is, “Seeking and doing the best for another.” I like that because if I put that into practice I will begin to focus on others and not my own selfish desires. If I ask myself what is best for my husband or my friend or my kids…etc, then I am also growing in love and becoming more skilled at giving love to others.
What keeps us from this thing we call love?
Sometimes as we walk in our own journeys we encounter people and circumstances that cause pain and disrupt our lives to the point where giving is hard. At those times, it’s vital to be able to receive love from people who care about us. There is no way I can even begin to get into the issues that cause problems and keep us from real love. God wants you healed and wants more than anything for you to know His love and be able to share it with others. Are you in a place where you cannot give? Are you in need of healing so that you can freely receive and freely give? If you answered yes to those questions, I am compelled to tell you that there is someone that cares. Accept my invitation to join one of our women’s groups where you can be surrounded by those that are willing to share the gift of love. What are you waiting for?
