It’s a New Year and we all want a fresh start:  I’ll keep a cleaner house; I’ll stay on top of the expenses; I’ll read my Bible more…  Wait a minute!  Did I just include reading my Bible as a chore?  Yep, I sure did!

For years that was how I felt about it – a chore on my “To Do” list.  And because of that, it often fell to the bottom of my list… or off of it all together.

Then, John and I attended a Bible class taught by David Haladay.  During class he shared how early in his marriage had been in a desperate state – crying out to the Lord for answers.  At that moment, he sensed the Lord telling him that if he valued what the Lord was saying, the least he could do was be prepared to write it down.

Thus, I began a new journey in my Bible reading.  Daily, I got my paper and pen; asked the Holy Spirit to speak to me through God’s Word; and gave up my compulsion to finish a chapter.  Actually, often, I now get only through a few verses before the Holy Spirit begins to reveal truths and new understanding to me.  What a difference this has made!  Now, I can’t wait for my daily appointment with HIM.  I literally get a Fresh Start every day.

Another element that helps me on this Fresh Start journey is the process of retraining my brain.

Dr. Caroline Leaf teaches about the significant impact our thoughts have on our health.  As I began to study her research, I realized that I definitely needed to learn how to take my thoughts captive.  Staying in God’s Word and in touch with His Spirit definitely helps me do that, but I need a LOT of practice.

If you would like more information and a jump start for 2017, join us at the TAC (6702 University) on January 4th and 11th at 7:00 pm as I teach a crash course based on Caroline’s research on how to “Retrain Your Brain.”  It is LIFE CHANGING.  Childcare will not be available, but a babysitter would definitely be worthwhile.

You cannot even begin to imagine how implementing these two simple principles could totally impact your journey in 2017 and throughout your life!

Galatians 5:1 tells us, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.”

Let’s embrace that truth by living it out each and every day – in every way.  It is truly possible in the power of His Holy Spirit.  Together, let’s get a FRESH START!
