Well today is a birthday EVE in my family! Tomorrow my youngest will turn the BIG 12! And for some reason, I guess since it is the youngest of our bunch, I’m feeling the age change! I will now officially have a TWEENAGER in the house again! Maci is my miracle child… she is the baby we tried to have for 4 years after Mia was born. She was the sounding board that God was still in the business of making doctors and sorrowful nights come under the authority of the Only One who gives life! She was a gift at the most perfect time, and she was a fighter from the start!!!
Maci was born on November 25, 2005 at 2:05 in the afternoon. (Do you see any symbolism in the numbers?) She was 3 days late, and she started making her grand entrance after that 3rd piece of pie on Thanksgiving! I always tell her I believe she waited for turkey, since it has always been her favorite. She’d prefer an oven roasted turkey with a candle in the middle over birthday cake to this day! She was born screaming into this world, and if you ask her sister she’s cried much of her life since!
Within a few hours of being born, she was rushed to the NICU where she’d fight for her life after getting an unknown infection. She’d been born a healthy 7 pound baby… she had already opened her eyes and even ate her first meal, when our world was turned upside down and I’d learn to pray all over again. To this day I don’t know what caused her to become so ill, but I am grateful to a team of doctors who never gave up on her. So many tiny miracles occurred over the next 7 days until we finally got to bring her home for the first time. She had proven that God had truly named her.
Maci Rae means “The King’s Warrior” and that is exactly what she has been since the day she was born. She is a warrior and every day she continues to teach me what it means to be brave and courageous. She is the defender of our family, and she will be the one to kick someone in the shins for messing with her big sister! She is witty, feisty, and definitely the most brilliant in our bunch. Tomorrow when I light that candle (even if it ends up on a turkey) I may cry a few tears of joy and thankfulness for the last 12 years. I know I’ll read this verse over Maci as I remember that God alone ordains our steps… “A man’s mind plans his way [as he journeys through life] But the Lord directs his steps and establishes them.” Proverbs 16:9. Happy birthday Maci Rae! Here’s to many, many more!
