Why Prize 31?
PRIZE was inspired by Philippians 3:14
“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”
In this fast-paced world, we all feel those things that compete for our attention. You know, it’s the stuff that starts before we get out of bed. Our eyes are open and our minds are busy. The invitations to accomplish and achieve start rolling in. They are loud and sometimes demanding. We start, only-to-start-again! Yes, that stuff. And, then there are those days where the list invites us to press into things that really don’t matter much. And, dear friends, thats where this verse steps onto the stage of our lives. It whispers a reality to each of us and calls us to attention. It reminds us to go after the THING that really matters. The wisdom it speaks is eternal – it’s the goal of goals. It asks: will you leave the mundane and go after the glorious?
I HOPE YOU SAID A LOUD YES!!!
AND…if that is not enough, Webster’s dictionary defines of the word prize as: Anything taken from an enemy in war!
Did you hear it? Do you see it? Here we see a God who goes through extreme measures to come and rescue us. We were worth it to Him! WHAT A GOD…
Now for the 31
I’m sure you guessed it.
31 is no random number, it comes to us from the book of Proverbs —straight out of the Bible. I like to think of it as three thinking of one!
In this chapter, we see an amazing portrait of a woman on mission. Her secret?
Her love for God – she went after the prize. We can’t deny that it paved the way for her to fulfill her God-given assignment with such beauty.
AND, there is also a strong admonition in this chapter of Proverbs that reminds us to live beyond ourselves.
It invites us to stand up for the poor and destitute. To speak out for justice!
Don’t you love that? Thought you would…
