The other day I made breakfast for the family–a wonderful protein and nutrient packed smoothie. I wanted to really show everyone how much I loved them, so I added some new superfoods to the mix. I took out pretty glasses and poured everyone their liquid amazement.
I handed it to Mr. D. He smiled, took a sip and immediately gagged. “What did you put in this? Dead Fish? Really, Deanna, did you put raw fish in the smoothies?”
It really couldn’t be that bad. My daughter tried it and just spit it right out.
Now, our dog has a huge file at the vet. He will eat–literally–anything. I put the smoothie in his dog bowl. He just looked at me. I dipped my finger in the bowl and he obligingly licked my finger. I dipped it in again and he turned his head away.
It was so bad that even the dog who lives on a steady diet of wood, socks and most recently rat poison wouldn’t eat it.
There was a time my life where this would have crushed me for the day. I might have even cried. Now, I just laugh. You know, we all fail. Daily. Sometimes it is just a stumble–like the smoothie–and others it is a full out tumble. I had one of those too. The key to laughing is understanding and BELIEVING that the only thing that matters is how the Lord sees us and He looks at us though lenses of pure, clean love.
You are worth so much more than a ________ (insert whatever your latest “mistake” is here.)
What’s the price of two or three pet canaries? Some loose change, right? But God never overlooks a single one. And he pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don’t be intimidated by all this bully talk. You’re worth more than a million canaries. Luke 12:6-7 (Message)
You are worth far more than gold or silver or ______________ (insert the most cozy, big thing you can think of here.)
For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 1 Peter 1:18-19
You are a part of a Royal Priesthood, a Holy Nation, you were hand selected because you are simply amazing.
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7
You are amazing simply because you are a child of God.
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12
We can all just laugh today because our self-worth is not decided upon by the success–or lack thereof–of our attempts at breakfast. Our self-worth is stable–unchanging because it is not decided upon by us. Rather, is it set in stone by God. Isn’t that amazing?
Enjoy your day and laugh. A lot.
P.S. For the record, I DID NOT put fish in the smoothie. It must have been the whole avocado pit that my vitamix chewed up beautifully, yet not tastefully.
