The Lord Bless You by Gloria Toti

Today, I want to bless you with a portion of scripture that drenches my soul with hope.

We find it in Numbers 6:24-26

Most of us have heard of it, thanks to Cody Carnes, Elevation Worship, and Kari Jobe.

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

 the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;

the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

The song is a fav – we all love it when we sing it in church.

Those words are truth, and our souls know it.

What many of us may not know if how those words came to be.  Moses spoke those words over the children of Israel as they were headed to the promised land.  They had constructed the tabernacle in the wilderness and there we find God speaking blessings of love over His children.

I love this rich history. Of course, we are not in the desert walking around mountains or sacrificing animals in the desert, yet we are still on our own pilgrimage through this earth.

And, what a joy it brings to know that God’s presence is just a real today for us as it was for them in their hour of need.

One day, we will speak to the people of that day, and we will all exchange stories of how it was to live in the time that God chose for us.

What will your story sound like?

Today, if your story is not the narrative you want it to be.  Change it with God’s help.  Go back and read those words or read the entire story of Numbers.  Then think about how hard their lives were in the days they were called to live through.

Let’s not let the enemy tell us we can’t make it past our mountains in life.

Those believers had to contend with their enemy just like we do.  Let’s see the end from the beginning.  Imagine yourself telling your story to believers who walked with Jesus or Moses, or Paul. Do you think they would challenge us if we told them we lived through the hardest of days?

They might be tempted to ask us something like this: “didn’t you have Bibles and Bible apps coming out of your ears?”

We would have to say, well, yes, we did.

Let’s not let busyness rob us or our rich spiritual inheritance.

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

 the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;

the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

    Thank you for the beautiful blessing and reminder of God’s love. We grew up with the tradition of my mom blessing us every time we walked out the door. I have continued to do the same with my family. I was very glad to learn its origin.
