A Fresh Start By Linda Johnson

Are you ready for a fresh start? A new year is right before us, which is a great time for a fresh
start, but a fresh start on what? What do you need a fresh start on? Are you intentional with
your life, or do you go through life without a plan, not really knowing where you are going or
how to get there? Going through life this way can be extremely frustrating. Uncertainty can
lead to anxiety. If this is you, why not begin the new year with an intentional fresh start? How
do we do this?

First, you need to realize God has a perfect plan and purpose for your life. Ephesians 2:10
says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I
have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you
hope and a future.” You need to embrace the fact that God created you for a reason.
There is no one else in the world created with the exact plan and purpose as you. There is no
one who can accomplish His plan and purpose the exact way you were created to do.
Secondly, once you have realized God does have a plan and purpose for your life, you need to
begin to learn what it is. The only way to do this is to spend time with Him, both in prayer and in
His Word, asking Him. Spend time in His presence, not just asking, but spending time just
listening. He wants to share His thoughts with you if you take the time to listen. God has
promised to answer us. Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you
great and hidden things that you have not known.”

Once you have learned God’s plan for you and your purpose, the next step is to start living
your life according to the plans and purpose God has revealed to you. Be intentional about
the decisions you make in your life. Ask yourself, “Is this a wise decision that will help me to
accomplish God’s plan and purpose for my life?” Continue to ask for God’s guidance as you
walk through those decisions. Proverbs 3:6 says, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He
shall direct your path.” This is truly being intentional with the direction of your life.
This year, I have decided to embrace a fresh start on being more intentional in all aspects of
my life, spirit, soul, and body. I want to recommit myself to knowing what God’s plan is for my
life and walking out that plan. I’m recommitting myself to spending time with God, seeking His
guidance and listening to His voice, acknowledging Him in all my ways. I encourage you to join
me in a fresh start in this new year.
