“We should bring to God what is in us, not only what ought to be in us.” That’ s a rich quote, and one that invites us all to come as we are before God because He sees us already. God doesn’t want us to try to stuff the messy residue of our pain inside the closets of our hearts—all the while stepping onto the pretend stage that the world offers us.
God wants the stuff that really lives within our souls…the good, the bad, and the ugly…and the scary stuff as well that has us marching around mountains just like our older brothers and sisters DID LONG AGO. Yes that messy stuff that lives within our being that doesn’t belong there.
Imagine telling your true friend that everything is okay while your house is on fire, your car broke down, and your dog ran away.
Your friend would be in disbelief and wonder why are always saying “Things have never been better! – when they are not.
How often do we do that with God when He asks us if we are okay.
God longs for us to be honest and vulnerable with Him.
God knows it is our nature to create a big mess without His help.
He doesn’t want us to live in pretense mode.
He wants authenticity from his children, just like every parent wants it from their children.
Today, I want you to ponder this thought: It’s in the messy parts of our lives where God does His best work. He is not interested in our performance.
HE’S INTERESTED IN RELATIONSHIP. He knows better than anyone that relationships are messy.
