Angels Among Us By Tammy Barber

One of my favorite Bible verses is Hebrews 13:2 Be not forgetful to entertain
strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. I have had
several angel encounters in my life and wanted to share a recent one that I
feel will bring hope to other women who might be going through a difficult
situation. I am undergoing chemo right now and have been at the hospital
every week, sometimes multiple times. I know many of the staff members
that work there because of my frequent visits. Back in early August, I had an
interesting encounter with a nurse I had never seen before. She looked to be
about 30 and had a cute pixie haircut and pretty purple shoes that matched
her long sleeved shirt under her scrubs. There was something about her that
was captivating. I was nervous that day and felt a little overwhelmed as I
was about to start treatments and was not sure what to expect. I asked
about side effects, and she looked at me intensely and asked if I was a
Christian? I told her I was and that the Lord was taking good care of me. Her
eyes were piercing as she said I must never forget that Jesus‘s blood ran
through my veins, and the treatments carried the healing blood of the Lord.
Her eyes were blazing as she said those words almost as though ignited with
holy fire. This was a confirmation of a dream that another one of my friends
had that Jesus had the chemo going through Him before it ever got to me.
My friend said fire was flowing through Him as though the chemicals were
being purified before they came my way. This was a turning point for me as I
surrendered my health to the Lord and moved forward with confidence that
“through His stripes I am healed”. The next week I got a nurse that had
been at the hospital for over 25 years who knew all the staff and I told her
about the nurse from the week before. I mentioned her name and described
her in detail. This veteran nurse had never heard of her and I have not seen

the pixie nurse since. I feel certain she was an angel with a special message
for me. Have you ever encountered an angel?
Billy Graham authored a book entitled Angels: God’s Secret Agents. He
taught that angels are real, invisible “secret agents” who are sent to
guide, comfort, and protect believers. Angels are never to be worshipped but
we can thank God for sending them. Angels crisscross the Old and New
Testaments, being mentioned directly or indirectly 300 times. Here are a few
well-known events from the Bible that involve angels:
• Lot and Sodom: Two angels rescued Lot and his family from the
destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:1-15).
• Daniel in the Lion’s Den: An angel shut the mouths of the lions, saving
Daniel from being harmed (Daniel 6:22).
I am thankful that God created angels and sends them to help us during
times of trouble. Psalm 91:12 describes angels lifting and protecting a
person from harm, ensuring they dont stumble on a stone. I believe this
and have renamed this season Heavenly Prescriptions & Medications. When
will you have your next God encounter…your next (or first) angel encounter?
It is exciting to think about. There are angels among us.
