How many of you are familiar with The Book of Psalms in the Bible? It’s the place where we hear one of the authors spill his true thoughts with God and I want to tell you it’s refreshing.
God is not intimidated to hear how we really feel…because He already knows what we are thinking.
We are gearing up to teach through Psalms and Proverbs in our Thursday evening group, and so I pulled out my latest faithful Bible, and started looking for pencil marks. You see, I mark up my Bibles with stars, circles, and every now and then question marks, as if to say: God what in the world is going on right here. I am always very respectful when I ask questions. I hope you are too, but if you aren’t He again can handle it. Open the conversation a little wider – He wants to hear from you.
I want to read Psalms 15 for you – don’t worry it’s really short, and yet powerful.
Hint: It’s talking about going to dinner with God…or being invited to a party He will throw one day.
God, who gets invited
to dinner at your place?
How do we get on your guest list?
2 “Walk straight,
act right,
tell the truth.
3-4 “Don’t hurt your friend,
don’t blame your neighbor;
despise the despicable.
5 “Keep your word even when it costs you,
make an honest living,
never take a bribe.
“You’ll never get
blacklisted
if you live like this.”
Wait our actions matter to get invited to God’s party.
We don’t have to worry about not being on the list. It’s simple to RSVP.
Matthew 22 reminds us that Jesus talked about the Wedding Feast in his parable. He gave us a glimpse to get our names on the RSVP list.
“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.
Again, he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’
But they paid no attention and went off on their own to live life.
Friends let’s be aware of the invitation from our God. It not only helps us lead a good life on earth, but it also positions us in the direction of the table we will occupy one day at the banquet of banquets. This is a dinner party you don’t want to miss.
That’s not fairytale talk, it’s gospel truth. God is a God who does not lie. I can’t wait. Who wants to come?
