The Tall “I” in S.I.N. by Gloria Toti

How come it’s so easy to make ourselves more in life and God less than?
Because of the second letter in the word SIN –
that
tall
“I”
loves for us to position ourselves upon God.
When we look at any sin – our own or someone else’s – we see that “I”
front and center.Think about it how a person commits adultery because he or she is selfishly unhappy, and in that moment that nagging “I” matters more than others. We are all familiar with the sticky sand in the pit of SINFUL quicksand.  It’s the stuff that leads us to choose ourselves first and leave others behind.  Even if it’s God as well.

We are okay with inflating our own importance BECAUSE it makes the I in our broken souls happy for that moment.  But we can’t forget that we are to be combatting the frien-enemy called “I”.
JESUS words in Matthew 22:38 and 39 ring clear today considering what is happening with Pastor Robert Morris and Gateway church – the pastor and the church we have all come to love and esteem.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself.
What did we just see in God’s rule book:
God is first, others second, and we become third.
I can’t help but think of the sayings of Agur in Proverbs 30:19 at this moment of time – it’s not okay that children have and are being harmed at the hands of undisciplined predators living in the “I” lane.
There is a proverb that made me raise my eyebrows when I was a young Christian.
Today, I am an old lady…and I get Prov 30:18
When it says:
“There are three things that are too amazing for me,
four that I do not understand:
“The way of the eagle in the sky,
The way of a snake on a rock,
The way of a ship in the middle of the sea,
And the way of a man with a virgin.”
Is Agur comparing the lack of signs each example can leave? Birds through air, snakes across rocks, and ships through the ocean all happen without leaving obvious, immediate traces…
Sex, illicit or illegitimate, likewise leaves no easily seen traces that others might detect at face value.
I will say this:
God is a of JUSTICE, and He ISN’T WINKING at anything done in the cover of darkness.
Let us all be reminded that we are all living before the audience of one.
Please join me in praying for this victim and the entire Morris Family
and entire Gateway church body.
Join me next week as we continue the conversation of what God expects of us.
