What is Your First Thought? by Linda Johnson

When something comes up in your life, or does not go as planned, what is your first thought?

Are you immediately gripped with fear and worry or is your first thought the Kingdom of God?

Matthew 6: 33-34 says, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about its own things.”

In 2019, my husband went through surgery that went very wrong. The doctor came into the waiting room to tell me my husband might not make it through the night. What was my first thought? My first thought was that my husband would live and not die, and I declared it with my mouth. I would not even consider any other outcome. I held tight to what the Word said about my husband’s healing and recovery. I continually declared with my mouth scriptures that were promises about his life and health. I sought out what were God’s thoughts and His Kingdom. I refused to let fear or worry invade my thoughts. I could not afford to let my flesh entertain thoughts of fear or worry.

My husband’s life was too important to me to allow the enemy to have a foothold in the situation by giving in to worry or fear. It was a battle, but a battle I had prepared for many years by continually renewing my mind.

How do you keep worry or fear from being your first response?

How do you keep your mind on God and His ways as your first thought?

Romans 12:2 says, And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Our worldly flesh will try to keep us in worry and fear, but we must renew our minds with the Word of God to think first about what God says about your situation. Worry and fear lead to death but renewing our mind and thinking only God’s thoughts and what the Word says are life.

Don’t wait until the life of a loved one, or your own life is at risk, start renewing your mind now, today. Be ready so when you are faced with crisis of any kind, your first thought is on God and what His Word says about your situation. Stand on that Word, using your faith, and do not doubt the power of God.

Seek first the Kingdom of God, do not worry, and do this by renewing your mind with the Word of God.
