Twelve Days of Christmas by Deanna Duncan

The Twelve Days of Christmas are such a unique time.  Stretching from Christmas Day (Dec 25th) to Epiphany (Jan 6) it covers a WIDE range of days that for many of us can be life altering.

You have Christmas Day, Boxing Day for our Northern friends, eat all the things day(s), continue to eat more cheese and cookies aka left over days, New Years Eve, Resolution Day (New Years Day) followed by a few days of either doubling down on cleaning out your closets or just trying to recover from eating so much cheese.

For some, all of these days may be filled with a joy and a warmth of family.

Some may feel the unrelenting pull of figuring out how they are going to pay all the debt accumulated to pay for this season.

Others may be engulfed in grief.

Often, it is difficult to tell where a person is because we slap a smile on our faces as we make our way through the Happiest Season of all.

But what if…

What if regardless of where we currently find ourselves, we embrace the 12 Days of Christmas (and really everyday) as a celebration of what the Lord has given us.

A Celebration of the 12 Days of Christmas

On the First Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Knowledge of His True Character

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change James 1:17

On the Second Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Personalized Talents—things that make me uniquely special.

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but they are all from the same Spirit.  There are different ways to serve, but we serve the same Lord.  And there are different ways that God works in people, but it is the same God who works in all of us to do everything.

Something from the Spirit can be seen in each person. The Spirit gives this to each one to help others.  1 Cor 12:4-7 (ERV)

On the Third Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Purpose—knowledge that I can be significant in this life

God has shown you his grace in many different ways. So be good servants and use whatever gift he has given you in a way that will best serve each other. 1 Peter 4:10 (ERV)

On the Fourth Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

A Promise of Provision

My God will use his glorious riches to give you everything you need. He will do this through Christ Jesus. Phil 4:19 (ERV)

Fifth Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Abundant Blessings

And God can give you more blessings than you need, and you will always have plenty of everything. You will have enough to give to every good work.  2 Cor 9:8 (ERV)

Sixth Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Hope

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  John 1:5

On the Seventh Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Sustaining Strength

You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.  Psalm 18:28

On the Eighth Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Opportunities for Growth

My brothers and sisters, you will have many kinds of trouble. But this gives you a reason to be very happy.  You know that when your faith is tested, you learn to be patient in suffering.  If you let that patience work in you, the end result will be good. You will be mature and complete. You will be all that God wants you to be. James 1:2-4 (ERV)

On the Ninth Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

A Joy-Filled journey alongside your true love.

You will teach me the right way to live.  Just being with you will bring complete happiness. Being at your right side will make me happy forever. Psalm 16:11 (ERV)

On the Tenth Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Peace

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  John 14:27

On the Eleventh Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Salvation & Eternal Life with Him

I assure you, anyone who hears what I say and believes in the One who sent me has eternal life. They will not be judged guilty. They have already left death and have entered into life.  John 5:24 (ERV)

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas my true love gave to me

A knowledge that in this season, and every season, He loves me, protects me and WILL write my story to have a happy ending.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.  Romans 8:28
