How often have we felt like Moses when he said these words to God?  We look at the task before us and we feel totally overwhelmed – incapable.  Who am I to take on such a task?  I never bargained for this!  (Believe me, neither did Moses.)

Actually, that may be exactly the way God wants us to feel.  Surely not!  Isn’t He supposed to be a loving and caring Father?

To that we would have to answer, “Yes.”  The truth is, He loves us so much that He does not want us to fall into the same trap that Job and Peter fell into.  They both truly loved God, but considered themselves to be strong, committed, and righteous in their own strength!  We could name that “Pride.” 

Out of great love and compassion, their Heavenly Father gave Satan permission to “sift” them.  Quickly Peter recognized that relying on his own strength was a BIG mistake and he quickly repented.  For Job, it took a little longer and a very stern word from Father God.  (See the last chapter of Job.)

So what does God want?

Let’s go back to Moses.  God asks him, “What do you have in your hand?”  Moses offers his rod.  God then uses what Moses has and supernaturally performs great miracles. 

I believe that is our answer.  When we are confronted in life with tasks beyond our strength; when we are asking, “Who am I” because we feel so inadequate – God is saying to us, “What do you have in your hand?”.

He wants us to offer what we do have to Him so that we will look to HIS STRENGTH for help.  It is not only much more effective – it keeps us humble and out of the trap of pride.

So, who am I to be chosen by God to re-present Him on this earth?

I am nothing without Him.  He has given me life and breath.  In Him I am, “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that (I) may declare the praises of Him who called (me) out of darkness into His wonderful light.  (I Peter 2:9)

Yes! “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” (Php 4:13)  I am one created to declare His kingdom through my life!  I can do it in the fifth load of laundry; I can do it in my workplace; and I can do it through a kind word – ALL in HIS strength!

That is who I am – I am His and He is mine!
