You Are There by Carolyn Castro

You Are There

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”  Psalm 23:4

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5

Thank You for continuously pulling me out of the depths of darkness, a darkness I created.

I stumble.
I fall hard.
But You are there.

You hold me.
I’m the one who lets go.

You say, “Don’t let go. Hold on.”
 But I release Your hand.

You say, “Don’t open that door.”
 But I crack it open.

Still…
You are the One who reaches out after I let go,
waiting for me to grab hold again.

You are the One who shuts the door, over and over again.

You will never forsake me,
but I still find myself waiting for the shoe to drop.
Only…You don’t drop it.
I do.

I allow chaos.
I open myself to the world.
I walk toward darkness.

But You,
You are the Light that follows me into the depths of my darkness.
You are the Fire.
Let me burn for You.

You are the Light.
Let me swarm to You like a moth.

You are always there.
No matter where I go.

“Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Where can I flee from Your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, You are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, You are there.”
Psalm 139:7–8

In the depths of hell,
You are there.

In the highest of heavens,
You are there.

In the middle of chaos,
You are there.

In the stillness,
You are there.

In everything,
You are there.

In the in-between,
You are there.

A question I’d like you to ponder today:
What would it look like today to reach for Him, right where you are?
He is there. Sit and let Him speak.
