Spring is here! What does that mean to you? Spring is known for a time of rebirth and renewal, new beginnings. Nature displays this all around us with plants growing and flowers blooming but how does that relate to us? Have you ever thought of Spring as a time to clean up or refresh spiritually?
The Hebrews saw Springtime as the season they celebrate Passover. The Jewish people continue this today. It’s a time to tell their story from generation to generation of what God has done for them. A time to refresh this story in the hearts and minds of their family. It is also their tradition that before they can celebrate Passover properly, they must clean out the house of all leavened bread. This symbolizes cleaning out anything unholy. This is where the term “Spring Cleaning” comes from.
Recently, my husband and I took a vacation to spend our grandkids Spring Break with family. We enjoyed a great time of celebration. being together and refocusing on the wonderful things God had done in our family this past year. It was also a time to take a break from our normal routines for a short time and relax. After the time with our family, we then spent another week away just the two of us spending quality time together in the Word of God. We spend time in the Word together daily, but this time was more intentional and intense. The result of this dedicated time was a rejuvenation and recommitment to our relationship with our Lord and Savior.
For me personally, this has sparked an excitement about my relationship with Jesus. Just as I am experiencing the season of Spring, I’m now experiencing a renewal and refreshing in my life as a child of God. This time has caused me to focus, readjust and reprioritize things in my life, to give more glory to God.
We read in Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts; And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. This is basically asking God to inspect the things of your heart and thoughts and clean out anything that should not be there. Cleansing you and preparing you for use in His Kingdom. In essence, do a Spring Cleaning spiritually.
I took a hard look at what I’ve been filling my life with and how I have been spending my time. It’s been a time to lay my life before God and let Him exam my heart, letting Him show me things I need to let Him clean out of my life so that my life is more edifying and pleasing to Him.
Just as Spring Cleaning in my home is hard work but so worth it when it’s done and we have the enjoyment of a fresh clean house, so it’s been now that I’ve experienced Spring Cleaning spiritually.
As you experience this season of Spring in the natural, I encourage you to also experience it spiritually as well and do your own Spring Cleaning.
