As women, we all have a daily routine—some of us are meticulous with our skincare, others rush through a quick shower, and some take extra time choosing the perfect outfit. No matter what our routine looks like, we all take a moment to prepare ourselves for the day ahead.
One morning, as I was getting ready, I felt the Holy Spirit nudge me: What about your armor? What about preparing yourself spiritually? We read through Ephesians 6:11-18, but what if we actually applied it to our daily routine? Just like we take care of our outward appearance, we need to care for our spirit—preparing for whatever may come.
Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Start with Prayer
Before jumping into your usual morning tasks, take a moment to pray. You wouldn’t leave the house without clothes, so why leave without spiritual covering? It doesn’t have to be long—just something simple like:
“Lord, I put on my armor today. Help me walk in Your truth, peace, and righteousness. Keep me grounded in Your Word and in Your presence. Amen.” Prayer is what keeps us connected to God and aligned with Him.
The Belt of Truth
A belt holds everything together—it secures, supports, and completes the outfit. That’s what God’s truth does for us. His Word is our foundation, guiding our thoughts, actions, and decisions. As you fasten your belt (or even just adjust your outfit), remind yourself: I am held together by God’s truth today.
The Breastplate of Righteousness
We don’t wear a literal breastplate, but we do put on shirts to cover ourselves. The breastplate in battle was meant to protect the heart, and that’s exactly what righteousness does for us. But here’s the thing it’s not our righteousness, it’s Christ’s. As you get dressed, remind yourself: My identity is secure, not because of what I do, but because of what Christ has done.
The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace
Obviously, we can’t leave the house without shoes, right? We need them, to protect our feet, to walk through whatever terrain the day brings. In the same way, the Gospel of Peace equips us to step into each moment with confidence, no matter how chaotic or uncertain things get. As you slip on your shoes, say: I choose to walk in peace today, no matter what comes my way.
The Shield of Faith
We may not carry a shield every day, but we do grab things that protect us, a jacket when it’s cold, an umbrella when it rains. The Shield of Faith is what guards us from the lies, doubts, and discouragements the enemy throws our way. As you gather your essentials for the day—your purse, your keys, your phone—picture yourself picking up your shield and remind yourself: I choose faith over fear because God is with me.
The Helmet of Salvation
Before walking out the door, we always do a last check—fixing our hair, adjusting our outfit, making sure everything looks right. The Helmet of Salvation does this for our minds. It protects our thoughts from the enemy’s attacks and reminds us of who we are in Christ. As you take one last look in the mirror, declare: My mind is covered. My thoughts are renewed. I am saved and loved by God.
The Sword of the Spirit
Just like we grab our purse, wallet, or phone, we should carry the Sword of the Spirit, God’s Word. It’s our weapon against the enemy’s attacks. Scripture is what we use to fight back when doubt, fear, or temptation creeps in. As you head out the door, take a verse with you, keeping it in your heart
Walk into the Day Ready
As you get ready for your day, I encourage you to put on the Armor of God. Physically and mentally, take each step of your morning routine and apply it to putting on your armor. Imagine yourself or physically do it as you get ready. Put on your belt, your breastplate, your shoes, raise your shield, slip on your helmet, and grab your sword.
The armor is not just a metaphor; it’s a practical tool for our daily spiritual battles. We don’t battle against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces. And remember, God has already won the war. Don’t let the enemy tear you down because you didn’t put on your armor for the day. Because here’s the thing—the battle is real, but we don’t have to walk into our day unprepared. God has given us everything we need to stand firm. So let’s suit up and step into each day fully equipped, knowing that we are already victorious in Christ
