Their Cries For Help Is Real by Gloria Toti

Are all sins equal in the sight of God?
Before I was saved, I used to think so but how can passing a red light and getting away with it and hurting children be the same?
I have a different perspective as a mature Christian.
Those are two different type of law breakers.Proverbs 6:16 says this:
“There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him
haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies
and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.”
– some translations say it’s an abomination:

Do you know what the word abomination even means?
I remember asking my older sister what that word meant when I became a new Christian.
I don’t remember hearing any of the boys throwing around that word on the school bus.
But here it was in the middle of my Bible.

It means:  Anything greatly disliked or abhorred – detestable.

From this scripture and others, it looks like God is reminding us to
run from the abominable quicksand that intends to suck the life right out
of us and those around us.

Considering the selfish I moments being exposed on national TV let us all be reminded that God has been speaking to all of us for a very long time and it’s time to tell on ourselves so he doesn’t have to expose the I part of our souls.

The book of Philippians sends a clear reminder as well:
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
(did you hear the secret i being exposed by Jesus in those words – I did).
Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
What’s the learning for us today from Proverbs and Philippians?
Some of the things I could easily dismiss or justify are important to God.
Friends, there are things the Lord hates…and we should know those things—
and we shouldn’t dance around those matters in this loose society we find ourselves living in.
I will also add:  Hurting children will always be one of those things that God hates.
We should all be advocating against this type of SIN.
We don’t want to do things that make God sad because we are vying to
put ourselves first. Lies and half-truths are sinful.
Let’s pick up the conversation again next week about being selfless in a
very selfish fallen world.
