Frogs For Breakfast by Gloria Toti

Do you like to procrastinate?  Well, maybe you actually hate it, but you do it anyway.  Have you ever heard the advice given by Mark Twain,

“If you ever have to eat a frog, it’s best done in the morning, and if you have to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the largest one in the morning.”

Yuk – why is he talking about eating frogs.  Well, he isn’t really.

He is just talking about tackling the hardest task in the morning and to put it behind you.  Let your day start with a completed task that he calls a win.

What are some of the things you tend to procrastinate on completing or starting?  What goals have you had set in your mind, but you haven’t taken the first step toward?  What difficult decision or decisions have you been delaying?  That, my friend, is your frog!

Mark Batterson is right.  We can’t just pray like it depends on God, we also have to work like it depends on us.

If we want God to do the super, we have to be willing to do the natural… and it’s best to start first thing in the morning with that innate plan of connecting with God and setting our day straight.

Because how we start the day sets the tone for the rest of the day.

It’s amazing how many of us never give the morning a second thought beyond getting out of the door on time…and maybe coffee in tow.

I remember the days as if they were yesterday.  When the kids were younger, our morning rituals could easily slide toward a Toti earthquake.  Unplanned situations would send us into heightened emotions, and none of us wanted to enter their day that way…we would break a sweat without going to the gym.  Those days were hard.  Hang in there, dear moms.  Things get easier.  I promise.

But who are we fooling, it’s doesn’t take kids to get us going sideways.  We can be our worse enemies.

We all need the message of challenging ourselves and help not to blame others.

What would you change in your morning routine if you thought it was possible?  Can you create a frog-moment out of it?

If we all take the time to create new rhythms of grace for ourselves – we might have the strength to eat a baby frog – even if that frog situation tells us we don’t have what it takes.  I think that frog is lying to us.

So how, do we do this?  We stop and flex our gratitude muscle through prayer and intentionally focus on our early meditation with God and his Word.

If we will complete a task before we leave the house – it allows a winning streak to be set in motion for the day and allows us to get a hold of some super for our natural.   Check back next week as we discuss making time when it can’t be found.

Thank you Gloria! Sometimes I feel I procrastinate about procrastinating, if that makes sense. The feeling of relieve when I do finally do what I need to, should be enough to make me do what I need to get done. Thanks for the encouragement. I really needed to hear I need to eat my frogs first thing in the morning, so I do not let it take over the rest of my day!
    Enjoy your week!

Thank you! A good word for me! I tend to get all the little things done first so I can focus on the big one but then that doesn’t happen!! I need to rethink!
Love you and your words ♥️
