Mr. Mayor, When Did Life Become A Slippery Slope by Gloria Toti

Life group begins at 7 pm tonight: Meeting ID: 845 5442 5842

Giving Babies Their God-Given Right to Life In The Womb Shouldn’t Be A Hard Decision

Today, my topic might be a bit controversial, but how can we stay silent when one million abortions are taking place each year in the U.S. alone?  The intrinsic value of human life must be spoken about in order for babies to have their rightful chance at life.

It is not my intent to be insensitive today; I simply want to defend human life. I want to stand up on behalf of those little babies in the womb who have no voice. They have no vote in the matters of life and death, so we must speak out on their behalf.

I’m sure you’ve seen it in the news of how Planned Parenthood intends to return to our community in the interest of women’s health. And, our mayor’s response has been a bit disappointing to a woman who values life.

Before I quote what he said, I want all of us to remember that life is the most basic civil right.  We as a nation are fighting for civil rights currently, and I’m all for that. But let’s remind ourselves who deserves civil rights…

Whether you are born or unborn, planned or unplanned — whether red, yellow, black, white, or brown — everybody deserves the basic civil right to life — even if conceived in rape, one can be adopted in love.

I read that Mayor Dan Pope is receiving backlash for the words he shared on the Chad Hasty show.

Listen to this direct quote and consider his stance.  “Telling Planned Parenthood they can’t come to Lubbock would be in some ways like telling United they can’t build another store, or telling the Southern Baptist convention they can’t do another startup church in Lubbock.”

Not the same, Mr. Mayor.

I would like to ask our Mayor some questions:

  • Are there no laws for children in the womb… why not?
  • When does a person get his or her rights, sir?
  • When is a person a person?
  • When does human life begin?

You see, Mayor Pope’s comments come after a recent city ordinance, presented by multiple Texas state congressmen and pro-life advocates, proposed to prohibit Planned Parenthood and abortions within the city limits and to make Lubbock a sanctuary city for the unborn.

According to Mayor Pope, the ordinance is a “slippery slope”, and he doesn’t think he should be telling “businesses what to do.”

“It’s not the lane we need to be in he said.  We need to do the things we were elected to do – to provide police and fire services, to make sure that our parks are maintained, to make sure that we take care of the streets, to do the things that citizens elect us to do.”

Texas Senator Charles Perry and others sent a letter in late August to Mayor Pope and to the Lubbock City Council asking them to pass the ordinance and to “prevent planned Parenthood from opening since this organization profits off ending the lives of unborn children.”

While Mayor Pope claims he is “unequivocally pro-life”, he says that he won’t vote for the ordinance until it has been thoroughly inspected, and he can examine it in its final form.  I need to see this ordinance in its final form”, he said.  “I can’t say that I would vote for the ordinance until I saw it.”

I believe in being unapologetically pro-life as that is my conviction, and I pray that Mayor Pope votes for life. At the end of the day, it is all of our responsibility to address injustices in our city, state, and country.  Together, we can expose Planned Parenthood and their crimes against humanity.  Call your council member, let your voice be heard, and condemn this unthinkable practice. Let’s continue to fight for those without a voice, and vote to make Lubbock a sanctuary city for the unborn.

We are going to fight against Planned Parenthood if it means fighting for life.

We must do all we can to fight for the lives of these precious babies!

I’m Ben and I’m mad, we have elected a Trojan horse. No one that is pro life has to read a document in order to decide for planned parenthood to establish their legal killing of God’s children. Stand for God’s children and stand with Charles Perry.
